Les Chapieux, a small Savoie hamlet depending from the town of Bourg St Maurice, is located at 1554 m on the Route of the Great Alps which connects the Geneva Lake to the Mediterranean through the Lake and Cormet of Roseland.
The village is best known as an essential step on the path of the Tour of the Mont Blanc, between Contamines Montjoie by the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme and Courmayeur in Italy by the Col de la Seigne, and GR5 and the Beaufortain and Tarentaise tours. The Valley of Les Chapieux, a Mecca of pastoralism at the crossroads of the Tarentaise, the Beaufortain and the Mont Blanc massif, offers some of the most beautiful landscapes of Alpine valley with the majestic Glaciers icicle (3816m).
Here you can breathe the mountain ... pure air, whitewater streams, glaciers, rocks and sometimes austere landscapes, alongside bucolic pastures with a multitude of flowers, where cows, sheep and goats stay in summer.
Due to its vicinity to Italy, the valley used to be a strategic point: battalions of Alpine troops have been providing security and defense of the border for decades. In 1999, after the avalanche, the last camps have disappeared causing the end of all military presence.
Since we bought the old hotel in 2009, we have put a lot of energy to renovate the place and give it comfort to welcome our guests in a friendly and cosy atmopshere.
